Aspiring young artists in South Africa have a golden opportunity to pursue their dreams with the Arts & Culture Trust (ACT) Nyoloha Scholarship Programme (NSP). Applications are now open for the 2025 intake, offering talented individuals aged 17 to 25 the chance to secure funding for an undergraduate degree at an accredited arts institution.
The ACT NSP, in partnership with the Nedbank Arts Affinity and supported by Nedbank and the MTN Foundation South Africa, provides emerging artists with professional arts training and potential scholarship funding. The initiative, relaunched in 2022 after a hiatus during the Covid-19 pandemic, seeks to nurture young talent in the fields of performing, visual, and digital arts.
Interested applicants must submit a portfolio (for visual/digital arts) or a two-minute audition video (for performing arts) showcasing their talents. A total of 80 participants will be selected for bi-weekly online training, which includes mentorship, practical exercises, and industry exposure. The programme will culminate in a grand finale in Johannesburg, where 15 finalists will compete for two scholarship prizes.
Azanda Nyangintsimbi, the 2023 Visual Arts winner, shared her experience: “Receiving the ACT scholarship was a pivotal moment in my career. It provided invaluable resources and opportunities, allowing me to hone my craft and pursue my passion with greater confidence.”
Applications close on 30 March 2025. Young artists eager to take their skills to the next level are encouraged to apply at www.act.org.za/nyoloha. This programme not only provides financial assistance but also equips participants with essential skills for a sustainable career in the arts.
