South African shoppers are in for a boost as the Shoprite Group joins forces with Absa Rewards to offer more value across popular retail brands. From 16 August 2025, eligible Absa cardholders will earn generous cash back when shopping at Shoprite, Checkers, Checkers Hyper, LiquorShop, and via the Checkers Sixty60 delivery app.
During the two-month launch period, Absa Rewards members can enjoy up to 60% cash back, depending on their rewards tier. After the promotion, cash back will remain an attractive 30%, applied to both in-store and online purchases. Unlike traditional points systems, this programme pays real cash back directly into members’ Absa Rewards wallets each month, ready to spend or save.
The collaboration builds on the Shoprite Group’s strategy to partner with services that customers already use, making everyday essentials more affordable. Absa data reveals that Shoprite and Checkers top their customers’ retail spend categories, while the Sixty60 app continues to lead the market as South Africa’s fastest-growing delivery platform.
This new benefit also complements the Group’s award-winning Xtra Savings programme, which already delivers over R1 billion in instant monthly savings to customers.
Shoppers can sign up for Absa Rewards via the Absa Banking App and start earning from 16 August. Purchases must be made with qualifying Absa debit or credit cards, with a cap of R3,000 per accrual cycle.
