Realness Institute, a leading pan-African non-profit supporting African filmmakers, is inviting nominations for its newly restructured Governance Board as part of a strategic refresh and leadership expansion.

Known for championing bold, unapologetically African storytelling, the Institute runs flagship programmes such as the Creative Producer Indaba, AuthenticA Series Lab, and the Realness African Screenwriters Residency. These initiatives empower writers, producers, and directors to refine their craft, grow their networks, and reach global audiences.

Its alumni network includes 193 filmmakers and industry professionals from over 20 African countries, with partnerships extending to Netflix, Sundance Institute, Locarno Film Festival, IFFR Pro, and Series Mania.

The Institute is now seeking 3–4 new board members to provide strategic guidance, governance, and oversight in line with its 2025–2027 priorities, which include strengthening its training foundations, ensuring organisational sustainability, and enhancing alumni career development services.

“We are at a pivotal moment in our mission to sustainably support African filmmakers,” said Emmy-nominated producer Mehret Mandefro, Interim Managing Director. “Following a comprehensive three-month strategic planning process, we are focused on building a diverse board with the expertise needed to amplify our impact.”

Nominations close 30 August 2025. Visionary, purpose-driven leaders are encouraged to email submissions@realness.institute.
