As Cape Town heads into a series of public holidays, the City has issued an update to help residents plan ahead for waste services, ensuring that communities remain clean and disruption is kept to a minimum.

Refuse collection will continue as normal on Good Friday (18 April), Easter Monday (21 April), Freedom Day observed (28 April) and Workers’ Day (1 May). However, residents are advised to expect possible delays due to increased traffic and unplanned staff absenteeism over the holiday period.

To avoid missed collections, residents should place their bins out each day until they are emptied, excluding Easter Sunday (20 April) when no collections will take place. The City assures residents that any backlog will be cleared by the following week’s regular collection schedule.

In the event of a delay, residents are encouraged to manage household waste more efficiently by separating recyclables and compostables from general waste. This not only reduces bin overflow but also supports more sustainable waste management practices.

Meanwhile, all City drop-off sites will be closed on Good Friday (18 April). These facilities will operate according to public holiday hours from 19 to 21 April, as well as on 28 April and 1 May. Residents are advised to check the City’s website for the full list of drop-off facilities and their specific operating hours before visiting.

By staying informed and making small adjustments, residents can help ensure that the city remains clean and environmentally responsible throughout the festive period.
