Cape Town’s Spatial Planning and Environment (SPE) directorate hosted the second Property Developers Forum on 11 November 2024. This event, building on its June debut, reflects the city's commitment to improving engagement with the property development sector and enhancing the business climate at a municipal level.
Deputy Mayor and MMC for SPE, Eddie Andrews, emphasized the city’s proactive stance: “We aim to collaborate with the private sector to address challenges and foster a dynamic cityscape. By focusing on these issues together, we can devise practical solutions that unlock economic opportunities and growth.”
The forum presented updates on the Development Approval Management System (DAMS) and the Development Management Optimisation Programme (DMOP), showcasing ongoing efforts to streamline development processes. A key highlight was a panel led by Deputy Mayor Andrews, featuring Executive Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis and SPE Executive Director Robert McGaffin. This interactive platform enabled developers to voice technical, procedural, and other concerns, underlining the city’s dedication to constructive dialogue and inclusive progress.
The initiative illustrates Cape Town’s strategic commitment to nurturing growth through collaborative problem-solving and effective municipal-private sector partnerships.
